White (infection?) On Cory's nose?

One of my Corys looks like it has some type of disease. His nose has become white, and a portion of it appears to be missing/disintegrated. The only fish in the tank are Corys, Guppies, and 4 Horsefaced Loaches, so there's zero aggression.

I'm not exactly sure when it first started, but I'd guess no more than 2 weeks ago. His behavior doesn't appear different, but considering part of the face is gone, I can't imagine he's comfortable, so I'm considering putting him down with clove oil.

Any idea what is going on here?

Could be mouth rot. Better to put down. Lot of the area affected. Might be cheaper to replace.

Does look like a fungal infection, but at this point you should humanely euthanize him/her. Poor thing doesn't even appear to have a mouth LEFT. Too much of his face is missing to ever make a recovery and survive, IMO.

Agree with advice above. One more thing- what kind of substrate you have in the tank? I can’t make it out in the pictures, but it looks both large-grained, and too sharp. I can be wrong but it does not look conducive to Cory health. If in addition, it is of a carbonate nature, it would raise the pH, also undesirable. Something to consider. Good luck!

It's 100% silica pool filter sand. I had to zoom a lot to get the pics, so maybe that distorts the granule sizes. They should all be the same size. Pool filter sand is inert, so it shouldn't be affecting pH levels at all.

What are likely causes of mouth rot? I do a 40% bi-weekly water change, and the water parameters are all incheck. Why would only this guy get it, and none of the other corys or fish?

Indeed, silica sand is inert. In the photos it looked very large-grained.

Stress, diet, water quality issues. Not sure as it’s hard to decipher for your particular tank.
