normal cool white tubes that u can find in your local supermarket will do

10,000k looks nice. 18,000k is what I use though, it makes blues look most vivid IME.

All freshwater aquaria lights give off white color, it's what we as humans perceive it as. Some are however, tinted when compared to others. It's classified in heat ranges (8,000K, 10,000K, etc.). The hotter the rating, the more "purple" the bulb will be. If you want the least altered lighting, i would suggest asking a LFS for a bulb that is used for growing plants, I find those to be the "whitest".

I use two 10,000k T5's and two 6700k Actinic T5's on the tank my arow is in...His reds show amazingly with these...
