Hey all,
I made a post of this about 2 months ago maybe, but didn't have any pics...now I do. The problem sort of went away, but then came back again this week, and my gf and I are not sure what it is...my gf's 2 turtles have developed white stuff on their shells...she cleans the tank once every week and a half I'd say, its a 20 gallon, and were getting a 55 this weekend, theres a fluval filter, the water temp is about 80ish I think, she feeds reptomin every other day, and they have that special lighting...
Im not a turtle guy, but I noticed that they've been staying in the water a lot-not really coming out of the water on the rocks-so I've done some research, and it says to take them out for at least 2 hrs every day...

Can you guys point me in the right direction to cure these little guys?
Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure what to tell you but I would lower the water temp some so it's in the low-mid 70's. That will make the turtles want to come out and bask more often and it should help dry their skin and shells out.

looks like Calcium Deposits to me............Other than that, let them do what they want to do.........They know better than you or I.....

true but, if it were calcium deposits, how/why would only one get affected by it and not the other...then they both eventually got it though...

so this doesn't look like anything potentionally dangerous with them does it? I told my gf to use a toothbrush and try and scrub it off, and some did come off-is that ok?

thanks guys..and visious, I'm gonna turn down the temp tonite!

If they both got it, then both were affected..........Since all Turtles are individuals, what affects one may not affect another, and vice versa...............

Looks ok, just looks like calcium/mineral deposits. Some turtle shells get them more than others.

I did however notice on your comment above that you feed it reptomin, and thats it. I'd suggest feeding it lots of greens as well.

Turtle looks ok though.

thanks guys I appreciate it! cobra what do you suggest I feed, lettece and spinage and what not? I think one is a painter, and not quite sure about the other...

awsome, what a relief! thanks again everyone!

I agree with the advice above. Good vegetables for turtles include dark green or red lettuce (not iceberg, it's just fiber and water), kale, collards, turnip greens, squash, zucchini, and carrots. Most fruits are good too. My painted turtle loves cantaloupe.
