White Pearl....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Albino are not what a "white" pearl is...white pearls are also called crocodile pearls.

Crocodile pearls are basically white and black instead of the normal gold and black.

wow this is stunning piece.. really would love to won them someday, the price here for these type is at a high side now.. so now will wait for them to drop abit

they look like normal hystrix to me. the pearl looks like other pearls ive seen (aquaman comes to mind). i think the camera settings are a bit off as the white is blinding and difficult to look at. it would probably look better on a black background.
try asking for a pic of the same ray on a dark background, either under or the side (like a black washing up bowl or other container) should be relativly easy to do for the seller and you should hopefully get a better idea of the picture / ray.

its worth noting that young rays are often very light initially.

A breeder in Malaysia told me that some of those white/light based pearl breeder told him to keep the pups in a WTT tank until size about 8 to 10 inch then only the based could maintain I am not sure how true this is.

Hi wmkr,

Because Pearl rays can change both pattern and base colour over several years it is never 100% that a light base pup will remain that way indefinitely, I have had dark based pups change into light base within 18 months and vice-versa. At the end of the day a good dark base looks every bit as impressive as any light base I have seen. Where ever possible seek out the parents of any pups you are about to purchase, this will give you a fairly good idea of what to expect from your pups once they reach adulthood. Having said all this I do have 2 female Pearls that kick out lighter pups consistently and one that turns out a darker form, I would never guarantee they will remain this way however, experience tells me different.

I can add some examples to this thread of light base pups I have produced over the years if you would like to see them?
