Today i came home and i found 3 of my demasoni cruising near the surface. Upon closer inspection, one had long stringy white poop hanging off him. I proceeded to watch my tank closer for a few minutes, and found a couple others flashing and rubbing against the gravel.

I was researching around and wasn't able to find the two symptoms together.

55 gallon - Bubble curtain / rock structure
Filtration: 2 emperor 400's

Eating Dainichi color fx / veggie fx twice daily

W/C: Weekly 40-50% & gravel vac

(10) 1-2in demasoni
(4) 1-2in yellow labs
(5) 1.5in albino zebras

Nitrate: 20ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm
Hardness (GH): 150ppm
Alkalinity (KH): 200ppm
PH: 8
Ammonia: 0ppm
Temp: 80 F

Thanks in advance!

Which area of the body do they flick most?
What is the health history of this tank? Had it encountered ich previously? If so, how did you undergo the treatment process?
When was the last fish bought? How long was it quarantined?
Are they still eating properly at all?
No bloating or protrusion of eyes/scales?
Are the gills bloody red, pale red or simply healthy red?
What meds do you have access to? Praziquantel is available?

gill flukes & or Bloat. Jungle Hole in the Head (metronidazole) or internal parasite guard + salt, 50% water change remove carbon. do not feed for a couple days or so. temp should be 78-80.
do not feed any brine/frozen foods imo.
Check ingredients on that food. If the first ingredient is still white fish meal then do not use. One of the worse things to feed & put in your tank. White fish meal is just the bones of the fish & nothing else. Has lot of ash content etc.. Not good stuff. First ingredient is the most of whats in the food.
I have a couple packages of Dancihi from awhile to educate customers on fish foods & whats in them. They may have changed it?

The side of their body.. looks like the gill region? (if thats what your asking)

No ich before. Clean health bill

N/A

Maybe 3 weeks ago? Quarantined in a 10 gallon for 2 weeks.

The affected fish aren't. The rest of the fish are eating just fine though.

No bloating or protrusion of eyes/scales?
No

I believe its a healthy red. possibly pale

What meds do you have access to? Praziquantel is available?

Got some aquarium salt, quICK cure, stress coat, and genesis chlorine remover. I am going to my LFS today, so let me know what i need to get.

Thanks!

The ingredient is still white fish meal. I just checked my Hikari one, and it also has white fish meal as the first ingredient. :nilly:

I also got what Lupin recommended.
Jungle "Parasite Clear" - Praziquantel; diflubenzuron; metronisazole; acriflavine.

To treat, do i need to do the whole tank? or can i just scoop out the affected fish?

thanks!

I'm suspecting flukes. Give pure prazi a shot first. Either Droncit or Prazipro will do it.

  • Remove carbon.
  • Add 2.5 milligrams per liter of water.
  • If you are using the powdered version, it is difficult to dissolve. Predissolve in tank water by shaking it up in a small container.
  • Dosing
Day 1 -- remove carbon, perform water change with vacuuming, and add Prazi to tank
    Day 2 -- add Prazi
    Day 3 -- do nothing
    Day 4 -- do nothing
    Day 5 -- do nothing
    Day 6 -- add Prazi
    Day 7 -- add Prazi
Day 8 -- normal partial water change with vacuuming
Day 14 - normal partial water change, then add prazi
Day 21 - normal partial water change, then add prazi
Day 28 - normal partial water change, then add prazi
Day 35 - normal partial water change, add carbon, treatment is complete

I will follow that. i just did everything for "day 1"
my water looks a greenish-yellow :WHOA:

I just noticed on one side of a demasoni there are little white patches starting to form. Also, there is some cloudiness in his eye (on the same side)

Thanks for everything guys! ill keep you updated on how they're doing :)

Day 3: came home today to find a demasoni upside down on the bottom. his fins were shredded and he had red sores on his tail. his color was completely washed out and he had turned gray. i put him in a smaller tank, but he didn't make it.
is this something else? should i change the treatment plan?
let me know!

Sound like he got killed & there was nothing you could have done other them removing the fish early on. These little ****s are mean , mean & mean & hate each other with a passion. I have worked with them about 3 times in 3 different settings, size tanks & tank mates & they still take out their own.
If all looks well with the other fishes then no treatment needed & just do water change etc. & put some Bio Chem zorb in the filter & not regular carbon to clear up the tank really good.
