Hello all, hoping someone can help me diagnose an issue that just started with my 9-10 year old blood parrot cichlid.

She hasn't been eating for the last 3 days. This wasn't alarming at first as her behavior gave me the impression she was going to be laying eggs soon (more aggressive, hovering around / cultivating the area she always lays them). But this morning there was a large white sack protruding from her underside. It almost looks like eggs that haven't dislodged. She isn't acting any differently and is still extremely active. Best I could come up with from googling is ovarian prolapse, but none of the pictures I found looked similar.

I've attached some pictures. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Looks like a bunch of eggs stuck on her tube. What size tank is she in and how large is she? Your water change schedule needs to be increased. 40ppm nitrate is too high. Changes should be at least once a week.

See if you can gently ease or rinse those eggs off. Wear sterile medical gloves if possible or nitrile gloves. An epsom salt soak should help too. If her tube is bloody I'd put her in a hospital tank and use Sulfaplex.

She's in a 75 gallon tank and is about 7". I have a number of plants growing in the aquarium (riparium style) which is why I was doing water changes at a reduced rate. But I will definitely bump it up.

All of that said, the whole thing fell off on its own. I was watching when it fell off and it didn't look like there was any blood. I went ahead and did an Epson salt soak. Is there anything else I should watch for or do?

Edit: I also did a water change right after posting earlier.

Sounds good. Just monitor for now. It may be a day or so before she eats. 50% w/c per week should do it!
