I got mine from 2 different lfs and sold them years later I'm seeing a lot of green terror threads though and I saw a little guy at the store the other day I'm so tempted to buy

That's a pretty nice GT, Id probably pick him up.

There has been quite a bit of GT threads of late. It's nice to see. However it seems that most are just getting into the species. I've searched a lot of the old threads and there were a lot of GT owners back in the day with some very nice and large GT.

There is at least one thread a month on how to sex my GT. Just check out old threadds for answers. Having bred GTs for many years, I continue to say that it is not possible to sex until the fish reach breeding size which is 3 to 4 inch. Single dorminfant female can be as colorful as male and has fooled me many times. Once bonded, female will turn dark in breeding dress and gender is unmistakeable.

White saum is rarer today and sought after by some for its rarity. I hate to say that white saum is considered a low quality trait and selectively bred out in Asian strain.

That white edge is mint, I have a little guy of my own. I'm struggling with him a little bit at the moment he's starting to get picky with foods I figured he came with a parasite or something so I dosed the tank with some medicine but I have faith.

I agree when I first started with cichlids my first choices were green terrors and I fell in love with them, very mean but beautiful nonetheless

I want to pick up that green terror but he would probably ruin my community sa setting real quick

Don't let the name terrorized you. IME, GT is one of the most peaceful SA and is safe to be kept in a community with SA. Matured males can be harsh to one another, but they typically leave other fish alone. GT exhibit passive aggressiveness. They will stand the ground if challenged, but typically don't pick fight unless the tank is too small. Because male GT can reach 10 inch, you need to have a minimum 75g to keep a single GT or 100g for a pair in peace. This is very different from another Terror I had. I once had a Festae Red Terror that would pick fight with no provocation and chased fish from one end to another. I heard that some wild caught GT can be aggressive. But my experience with domesticated GTs have been peaceful and only aggressive towards its own kind.

I had a 9 inch gt male that would chase but never do any serious damage, he shared a 125 with a very docile jag and some other feisty smaller cichlids. The passive aggressive thing makes lots of sense. Believe it or not they are more so chasers and harassers than anything kind of bullies, they just like to be alpha and make their presence known. They don't have the type of jaw and dentition to do serious damage to an equally formidable tank mate given the tank is large enough to make territory.

What size tank is recommended for a male gt to be in with no other gt but a lot more fish ? Like a 180 you think

As said in my last post, 75 g is the minimum for a single male. You can have a lot other fish that are smaller and less aggressive. GT doesn't pick fight but cannot handle aggressive fish of its size. Here is my single male with many small cichlid and a comparable size but mellow Vieja in a 75g. I had to remove another former Vieja tankmate that was too aggressive for the GT. It needs some trial and error to get it right.

Isn't this a bit hypocritical? I remember just yesterday you were in the thread regarding my old crowded 120g......how is this any better? Despite the fact that it's a very nice tank w/ healthy looking fish, ....with all due respect, that's WAY overstocked, am I wrong? And there's African cichlids too? What am I seeing there?
