im kind of worried on my spotted gar he is starting to get theses white patches on him. theres flat its not ich or anything ive seen before i htought maybe ammonia was high test was fine did a 20% water change anyway any ideas whats doing this?

Do you have any plecos, synodontis cats, flag tails, or other algae eating fishes in the tank with him? Just a guess, but it sounds like a tankmate may be sucking the slime coat from your gar. Post some pics and list the tankmates. Also...what are all of the water parameters? This will be start.

will recheck water parm once im home from work. tank mates are the gar at about 14', 2 10' or so oscars,1 7'jd, 1 6' feather fin cat, 1 7' pleco

your pleco is sucking the slimecoat off the gar. seperate them immediately, if this continues(and it will) the gar will end up dead.

also, the oscars are really bad tankmates for gar. i have a feeling the jd and cat are too.

I would say this is your problem. Remove them and see if things get better.

especially if they are 6 and 7 feet long! ...sorry couldn't resist :)

yes, the pleco is most likely the problem...i would separate them immediately or risk potentially fatal damage to the gar--

I was trying to be nice and overlook the extreme size of these fish, but i did get a laugh! He must live near a nuclear power plant. :nilly:

It's probably not necessary at this point to post pics. I feel pretty confident that the problem was taken care of by removing the pleco and Synodontis Cat. This is a fairly common occurence.
