White Sturgeon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Guys, larger sturgeon species have slowest growth rate in the fish world. A six foot long white sturgeon can be 20 years old depends on the water temperatures. I would say that he has plenty of time to upgrade the ponds when the sturgeons get a little bigger. Smaller sturgeon species have rapid growth rate but their lifespan is very short.

That's insane that you guys can get these, I guess they are raised in fish farms? Over here in california, they are a heavily regulated fish, bunch of regs and you can only keep 40-60 inches. Of course we have all sorts of funny regulations like not being able to take home bluegill or mosquitofish :)

Also sturgeon don't have teeth do they? I've always wondered how they eat other fish and bivalves and crustaceans.

Majority of sturgeons we get are usually farm raised ones and not wild caught.

The sturgeon do not have any teeth but they do have a powerful mouth to just crushing the shellfish and sucking the fish in.

I have read that they actually slow their growth with out being stunted according to the conditions/limitations they are in. Az aquatics has them spawning at 2 feet as that is all the bigger they will get in some of the pools they keep them in. I just wanted an actual home aquarium albeit large aquarium experience.

Source? Because it's almost physically impossible for the larger sturgeon species spawning at that size, unless they were talking about smaller species.

These fish came out of sacremento.
