has anyone keep them? Do they work just like Plecos or are they just Bottom eaters? We went trout fishing and snagged this little dude. We released him.

Im pretty sure they're definantly bottom feeders.....im no pelco expert though so i dont really know what 'just like pelcos' mean

"works Like a Pleco" means eat alge or waffers stuff like that. Who here has one? They do remind me of pleco/carp... lol It had the mouth like a Pleco They are called Longnose Sucker Catostomus catostomus or White Sucker Catostomus commersonii from DNR site

They're bottom feeders.

There's not any U.S natives that work like a pleco and stick to stuff while eating algae.

There are some natives that will graze heavily on algae (flagfish, and mollies being the most recognizeable), but none that will stick to things and scrape it off like you're thinking.

In any case, hogsuckers aren't one of the algae eating species, they eat foods that they find laying on the bottom and in the substrate, like crustaceans, mollusks, worms and bugs. They might pick up plant matter they find, but the majority of their diet doesn't consist of algae.

They might pick up algae wafers if you offered it to them, but so does my senegal bichir so I don't think that makes them similar to a pleco, lol.

Looks like a white sucker to me but Sucker can be hard to ID without lots of photos of all body parts. I've never had luck with sucker but this was before I read how to keep them. I'd say it's hard to keep sucker but in reality it appears those who keep them simply have a special set up.

Sorry, I didn't mean hogsucker, that was a typo, lol.

Suckers, redhorse, buffalo and the like are all not really easy to keep fish..They are not by any means a 'throw it in and expect it to clean up' fish. They need specific conditions and specific feeding to thrive. For those who wish to devote time to them they are a very interesting native but if your looking for something just to clean algae or leftover food these are not your fish..

yyea we have suckers by the barrel in new england
they basically a big pleco

Sure yeah.... big pleco...BTW they eat donkeys whole also....They gang up on them and first attack the ankles so they can make them fall into the water, from there they burrow holes into the side to eat entrails and poop and such....suckers are really like big toothless piranha...

Sorry but the above is as close to them being a pleco as your going to get.

Otherwise NOT at all...
