umm i beg to differ. if you're talking about special color morph gars, then yeah absolutely (but then most special color morph fish are expensive). But not so for the normal gars, even for the cuban.

the white tropicals are regularly available from farms in Mexico, it's just a matter of importation fees, etc etc. their base price is usually around $3500-5000 --

yes im talking about the color morphs, most color morphd fish do not even come close to our price

Morphs aside, I think an adult Cuban gar would be worth at least 500-600 dollars in the US right now. That's nothing to scoff at.
