plants and a bubble wand can help balance ammonia, also give them pellet foods that contains vitamin c to reduce stress and to help prevent white spot.

we have a ryukin and a calico fantail. Not sure if these are the correct terms for them, but its what it says on our guarantee.

we tried to give them pellet food, but their mouths were too small. They could only get a little bit in their mouths, and I think they got annoyed with it and gave up. I felt sorry for them, so fished out the pellets and gave them flakes. :duh:

If any food is left in the tank, it just creates more ammonia, nitrite and nitrates.

What have you got as a filter?
And by the way, goldfish (The fish you have, and have correctly identified) would most likely try to eat any plants you put in.

We always fish out any left over food when the fish (Matt & Jeff) have lost interest. We have 2 types of plant in their tank at the mo, but they seem to have eaten their way through one type. Are there any plants that they won't eat, or are less likely to eat?

We've got a stingray filter that came with the tank. Not sure what size it is, but figure if it came with the tank, it must be the right size?
