a spotted gar at 5" is almost the size of a pencil.
I don't see why everyone blames a gar when something comes up missing in a tank. My guess is it was whichever fish had a fat stomach.

and who put this ill advised mix of fish in the tank? Though after the "I caught a jardini" fishing story, validity of anything from this OP is in question.
