suprisingly cheap where i am, 6-8 inch male for 20 bucks, fry around 5 bucks each

my male is trying by which i mean doing the dance but the females are still immature and reject him, which leads to chasing, all are around 4-5 inches so hopefully not long till i have some fry
i do know from research however that females a) can have hundreds of fry at a time and b) are very prone to spitting under stress
Now are the females just silver and don't get the blue?

Yes. Look at the head of a mature fish to see why they can have hundreds of fry. A Mbunas mouth they don't have.

I had a small 3" OB compressiceps, I sold him a week or two ago because I felt I didn't have enough room for him. He was all orange with dark spots and a blue sheen to him. They're awesome predatory cichlids, I like their elongate streamlined bodies. You can clearly see they're built for speed. They seem to always be on the prowl. I fed mine minnows and he bit the heads off and ate two lol.
