Alright, I just wanted to say that I think that this is more Monster "Fish Keepers" than "Monster Fish" Keepers. I do admit, I didn't join this site until I got my 100G. That was because I didn't think that REAL Monster Fish Keepers would put up with my noobie questions. However, I learned that there are plenty of people that will help all sorts of people from around the world. If I ask a question about guppies, dozens of people are bound to know about guppies and willing to help. Let's face it, more people own, say, tetras than pimas or RTCs. To say "All people without tanks bigger than X amount of gallons, please follow this link to Aquaria Central" isn't a very good idea IMO.
We all started somewhere. For me, it was a small Salamander named Waldo in a 5 Gallon plastic container. Then I got a big tank, 10 Gallons. Later, I doubled to 20 Gallons, and then my new 55 Gallon. Although I have come far from then, I will say that I am personally proud that MFK is willing to help people from all walks of their fish keeping hobby/ passion/ obsession. I don't consider Monster Fish Keeper a place exclusively for experts, or I wouldn't frequent here. I don't consider myself an expert at all (I'm only 16 anyway), but I can say that I have learned more from this site than I could ever contribute. It inspires me to see people like John throwing their all into keeping it Monster. I feel that it is my duty as a member of this site to try and help people new to the site, welcoming them warmly and helping anybody I can by adding my experiences and learnings.
Am I a Monster Fish Keeper? I consider myself one in a way. Not because I have a tank bigger than 40 or 55 Gallons, but because I share a pasison for fish keeping similar to most of the other people here. Sure, arapaimag could come up and beat me down for only having a 100G tank. But do people like them do that? No. I do not respect people for what fish they have, their number of posts, or status. I respect them for acting maturely, helping others with questions, and being an all around team member. I don't know about you people, but I have no friends that like fish. None. That's the purpose of MFK, to help people learn from people more experienced than them.
In conclusion, I think that we should use Monster Fish Keepers to inspire people to grow in the hobby so that they can inspire others. It's not a popularity contest, a power struggle, a post war, or a big game. The way we act as hobbyists directly affect our fish. I think that if we all act maturely, this hobby will grow and thrive like never before.
Sincerely,
Gabriel
