Hey Koop.. kudos to you for speaking your mind.

But everyone starts out somewhere. Think of it this way. A kid who keeps a 10 gallon tank picks up a TFH magazine and see's the MFK banner. He decides to check out the site...

Booya, he is now exposed to the madness and realizes the various other species of fish that is out there that can't be had @ a LFS? The addiction has started...LOL

What I don't like are people not use to keeping "MONSTERFISH" and try to be judgmental on how we enjoy our hobby of keeping MonsterFish. That is why there is a sister sight for the non-monster type hobbyist.

Good for you for speaking your mind.
very well said joey

I started with a goldfish when I was 9. Three years ago I was still keeping community fish..Then an ad in TFH. Then....MONSTER

I agree that everyone has there fair share of the site and it's a good thing it's here. So what 55 gallons are good tanks for beginners. I just personally don't like small tanks. I have a bunch of small tanks like 50's 40B's and stuff like that but I'd rather spend the $800+ on a big tank. I feel it's more rewarding but some people don't have the time or money to put into those tanks. So just leave it be.... and make a good enviroment for people.

Alright, I just wanted to say that I think that this is more Monster "Fish Keepers" than "Monster Fish" Keepers. I do admit, I didn't join this site until I got my 100G. That was because I didn't think that REAL Monster Fish Keepers would put up with my noobie questions. However, I learned that there are plenty of people that will help all sorts of people from around the world. If I ask a question about guppies, dozens of people are bound to know about guppies and willing to help. Let's face it, more people own, say, tetras than pimas or RTCs. To say "All people without tanks bigger than X amount of gallons, please follow this link to Aquaria Central" isn't a very good idea IMO.

We all started somewhere. For me, it was a small Salamander named Waldo in a 5 Gallon plastic container. Then I got a big tank, 10 Gallons. Later, I doubled to 20 Gallons, and then my new 55 Gallon. Although I have come far from then, I will say that I am personally proud that MFK is willing to help people from all walks of their fish keeping hobby/ passion/ obsession. I don't consider Monster Fish Keeper a place exclusively for experts, or I wouldn't frequent here. I don't consider myself an expert at all (I'm only 16 anyway), but I can say that I have learned more from this site than I could ever contribute. It inspires me to see people like John throwing their all into keeping it Monster. I feel that it is my duty as a member of this site to try and help people new to the site, welcoming them warmly and helping anybody I can by adding my experiences and learnings.

Am I a Monster Fish Keeper? I consider myself one in a way. Not because I have a tank bigger than 40 or 55 Gallons, but because I share a pasison for fish keeping similar to most of the other people here. Sure, arapaimag could come up and beat me down for only having a 100G tank. But do people like them do that? No. I do not respect people for what fish they have, their number of posts, or status. I respect them for acting maturely, helping others with questions, and being an all around team member. I don't know about you people, but I have no friends that like fish. None. That's the purpose of MFK, to help people learn from people more experienced than them.

In conclusion, I think that we should use Monster Fish Keepers to inspire people to grow in the hobby so that they can inspire others. It's not a popularity contest, a power struggle, a post war, or a big game. The way we act as hobbyists directly affect our fish. I think that if we all act maturely, this hobby will grow and thrive like never before.

Sincerely,
Gabriel

I started this hobby with a 5 gal tank with a african clawed frog , a small albino oscar and the internet . Armed with that i ran into AC they gave me some great info and the knowledge that this site existed. The first thing I seen on this site was Rallys feeding video and i was hooked . So i guess i disagree with your post because without having that lil 5 gal and this website I would`nt be the MFKer I am today .

Thank You MFK!!!!!!!!!! :headbang2

You are so wrong...This place is for people to learn and eventually become monsterfishkeepers too.. When I started going on mfk I was 12 and I only had 1 45gallon. Does that mean I didn't like fishkeeping just as much as you ?

No I never said that you don't care about fish as much as I. I am just stated the way I feel about people who post about there 5gal tanks. It's botherson to me since we have such a great sister site in Aquaria Central to help such beginers out.

1st thing, how renowned you are on this site is DIRECTLY related to what you have, and how much you have. In terms of fishes, and tank size + ammount.

2nd thing, Nobody replied to his thread originally? Because it was only little? Seems like it to me.

I understand where you come from. I understand where the you need a big tank to be known feeling comes from. EVERYONE knows who ArapiamG and JohnPTC are and how big there tanks are. and if you don't know you will before you hit 100 posts. and more the one of your posts will be in one of there threads.

I don't feel My first thread was not replied to b/c it was a small tank. It was more then likly not replied to b/c it was a question that's anwser was NO they don't make a UGF for that tank. but even that was not a reply. but I am not upset about it. I found out my own way and i'm not bitter about that as someone implied.

bummer, guess i gotta quit coming on mfk cause when i joined i had a 38g and about 2 weeks worth of fish owning knowledge.

without this site id still be in the iceage knowledge and gallonage wise. why dont you take my 505g total volume and distribute it out to "the less fortunate" so that everyone "belongs". im shure others would be willing to do the same.

mfk is not above any other site, and it is not an elite club. everyone gets upset and rants, me included, but there are NO requirements to be part of mfk fishwise.

Mopar most know you for your sarcasim and more often then not rude behavior but that's you and you own it so no one really cares to much. Myself included. MFK is not above any site. BUT it is a VERY advanced site.

Some of the best tanks I have ever seen in my life were the 55-75g range

This is an aquarium community. Sure you may have bigger tanks then I do, but I'll give 10:1 odds that I have a more firm grasp of the microbiology that takes place in any aquatic environment then you do. Sorry if my contributions bother you

Now why do you knock my knowledge. I have not talked down to anyone in particular. you may know more then I about the microbiology of the home Aquarium then I but for all I know your are a microbiologist. And fine. I'll be greatfull when I have a question That you can help me with. but off the top of my head unless it's a cycling question I don't feel micro biology will be helpful.

AGAIN I was only expressing my view in the matter at hand.

I do not wish to offend but I am entitled to my views. And if offending someone in the process happens then it does.

I am glad this was not closed and I also am glad that for the most part people were not flaming me for expressing my view.

I am not personally offended, but I wouldn't be suprised if your attitude causes one or two members leave MFK permanently. Have you taken that into consideration? I am rather disappointed that you or any member of this forum would ever think that MFK is a place for people with big tanks only.

:(

Pretty much all has been said, but I wanted to throw a few other things out there for ya Koop....

Even though you may not call anyone out in particular, it doesn't really matter, because one thing about MFK that also makes us monster - is our unity. We come from all over the world, all walks of life, all economic brackets and professions.... But we all share the passion for this hobby, and respect one another. Therefore, when it comes to topics like this, you're rattling the big dog's cage because we all (no matter if we own 20 tanks, 2,000 gallon tanks, or no tanks at all) love this hobby, this site, our friendships on here, and what we get from - as well as what we bring to this site.

I understand your point - Once you take that leap in to Monster tank sizes, anything else seems dull in comparison - BUT that doesn't mean that it IS, it simply means you have tasted the next level, and that thrill, that passion and that dedication should flow from you and inspire others - not shun them because they aren't there yet. They may never want a huge tank, and that's ok, because just like the house you live in, the car you drive and the clothes you wear - The size of your tank has nothing to do with your passion or experience, or your skill level.

People don't flood my PM box asking about my tanks, they ask about theirs - small or large. They don't "rate" me based on what I have... It's about what you can offer others - your knowledge, experience and dedication to this hobby is what matters. Your attitude and willingness to guide and inspire others is what determines your worth here.

:clap:hearts:

now we all know it isnt about the size of your tank or the tiny little fish in it! its about your passion for fishkeeping and thirst for knowledge-THAT is what makes you a monsterfishkeeper.. it even says that on the front page of MFK! it doesnt matter what size tank-we all started somewhere..

now what i am getting sick of is explaining the nitrification cycle lol.. come on ppl! read up on basic fishkeeping skills! hahaha
