who else overstocks thier tank??

their cool peoples. my fish love eachother. my jag givs the mayan playful kisses on the mouth and I catch them cuddling at night but wen I turn the light on they scatter in shame. lets just hope the mayan is a female or imma hav to start another thread that reads "homosexuality among cichlids". lolllllll

That's great they are doing fine now, but keep an eye on them. They might be good or they might go completely pyscho. That is one reason I'm planning to separate. Also I am always worried and testing my water params because of over stocking. I don't want to loose any of my fish due to disease or stress.
In other words I'm saying I don't want to over stock and want to change things up.

I used to have a 125 that I had stocked with 4 female jags all were 8"-11" and there were 3 oscars which ranged from 9"-12", there was also 1 midevil at 6" and a gold saum at 4", i had 3 large plecos and 1 very large pleco in the tank then. I think this is more like overstocking, i had a backup 75 gallon but never needed it. These fish can work together, a lot depends on the aquascape to make it work, and make sure they are well fed. I ran it like this for about 2 years, never had a problem.
I recently upgraded my tank to a 220 gallon just cause I wanted it bigger. I now have 6 female jags, all over 7" and one male at 7", the midevil is now pushing 10", there is only 1 - 12" oscar as I sold the other 2, but I also now have 2 wolf fish that are both about 6", a clown knife at 6", an ornate bichir at 10" and a senagal at 9". All fish are fine, there is the odd lip locking but nothing serious and mostly just between the jags. Nobody is stressed. But I do keep a few tanks that are available as a backup in case anything changes, the new setup has been running for a month now.
A lot of people told me it wouldnt work too but I didn't listen I just did cause I love all my fish and cant part with them.

Always a must w/ CA cichlids :) Plus dividers may be needed. Sometimes also a fish might have to go so keep in contact w/ a LFS that would be willing to take fish in. I've had cichlids that couldn't be kept with anything period, so I've had to sell or donate to a LFS. I hated giving up the fish, but had no other space for them. Its better they have a chance w/ a new owner that might have a better tank. My old h. cyano was a real psycho. She wouldn't tolerate any other fish no matter what tank size. Unfortunately she had to go. I can say I've only lost two fish due to aggression. It was a 6'' female sal in a 55g w/ a male firemouth. I made the mistake thinking a firemouth would never be able to kill a larger salvini. I was wrong. The other was a a. rostratus and an a. altifrons about 2'' in a 72g bowfront. The rostratus was chasing the altifrons and thought these are peaceful cichlids in a large tank for their size. Nope, wrong again. The rostratus killed the altifrons. I now watch everything very closely and if I see any signs of aggression. I had to sell 3 HRP pairs that were in my 150g because they were beating the crap out of larger fish like my 11'' syn, and JD. These were 2-3'' HRPs lol.
 
I have a 20 high under the 125 just incase something bad pops off, I feel as tho my fish don't worry about territory yet they are like fatties always wanting to eat always facing the front of the tank at attention waiting for me to throw em some nls, my firemouth likes to pick scale off of my terrors tho don't know y

Just being an aggressive firemouth but I bet there is no other damage. As long as the terrors aren't stressed and no real damage is happening I wouldn't worry. Just keep an eye on things. In your case it's the larger ones I'd worry about when they get bigger.

I'm with ya man. I have a 125 with a festae, red devil, Midas, parrot, two cons, two flowerhorns, a feather fin syn., an eclipse cat, a Pleco, two dempsies, a fenestratus, four Texas red head hybrids, a rainbow cichlid, a firemouth, two black belts, and two synsiplums. I just another tank for when they get huge.
 
grew out some cichlids in my 180 once they all hit "10 the jag claimed the tank
