I’ve caught those around Mexico beach and port saint joe.

I caught a bunch of regular fish on my last trip but collected nothing- since we last communicated.

I’m getting close to pulling all my holbrooki to cull the silver males and put the rest back in

Where are you? I get the feeling you are mid Atlantic? Where are your sail fins from? What did you do with the sunfish you caught? Don’t you have gambusia holbrooki as well?
Gambusia came inside, sunfish went to other people, sailfins are from wetspot and they're nice and all but I sure would like to get some of the ones from Texas that come up from Mexico
Yes I am mid Atlantic east coast

You’ve got wild sailfins that occur at least up into South Carolina. I think holbrooki and the mollies are the only two naturally occurring live bearers here where I am in the low country, coastal Ga. you would just prefer the Mexican/ Texan variety?

Oh I just thought the ones east and north of Texas/NM/AZ were released pet strains that bred out the man made color morphs so that's why I wanted the Texan ones because I thought they were the only pure latipinna in the US
If they're in SC this changes things

Well it's been less than one day of them being outside and a crow ripped the screen lid off and got one of two female swords

man, I’ve read about these issues or heard in conversation about them my whole life, but I’ve/we’ve always had dogs and that helps to no end. My labs are kenneled next to the vats and that sort of solves it all. My parents ponds had some predation- but again, a couple severe male Labradors tag teamed the AO And kept those herons raccoons snakes cats frogs ducks deer turkeys hawks falcons yotes and bears respectful in there visitation, so a balance was struck.

you need to get a coyote decoy.

we have nothing but birds under or the size of a crow in this neighborhood
sometimes deer
i've never even seen squirrels and apparently there was a raccoon once but that's about it
last year i had a foot long rat squeeze under the metal screen lid and drown, poisoning all the fish, but that was when i had a single tub in my grandpa's garden
ironically i thought that would be safer because it was fenced in and not in direct sun

a coyote decoy will help all of those little birds or occasional animals bother you and your fish less

This is the worst month I've had in fishkeeping
Lost so many fish
The cherry on the cake was the temperature dropping for a single day and my ponds freezing overnight, the fish with them
Does anyone have a male chetumalensis
