  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So what's the total up to?

Right now, just 4. Thinking I may go to 7. I don't know, for some reason I feel better about 4-5 though.

An armatus is not the same as a sabretooth tetra is it?

Sabertooth/sabretusk - Tetra/Barracuda are all generic terms given to Payara. Payara is a generic term the fishermen give to about 6-7 species of toothy Characins.

So technically yes it is, but if you're looking at an add somewhere that has them for $40-$100 then no, probobly not Armatus. Armatus command the most $ so therefor are usually referred to as "Armatus"

4 was my gut instinct too....

I believe 6 is the highest # that has been successfully raised together, so IF you wanna 1 up Will, you gots go with lucky # 7!!!

Now you just gotta figure out how to NOT get bored with them like you did the last one.....

say no pond... and for life for 3 armatus.. atleast 1000 gal?

Are you speaking from some exp? Not certain why you would be against raising them in a large pond? Once they reach 16" or so the pond IMO is the best alternative. These fish need space, and a big square seems to me t be the best option.

I do understand that tey are not as visable in a pond, but is they reach this size, I believe the stability and size of a pond will serve them best.

Once they get big they should be stable enough to handle themselves....

Best for hobbyist = tank

Best for fish itself = pond

I'm sure if BOTR decides to keep them they will be housed something crazy. Wouldn't be suprised if he did a monster block tank/pond that would rival a public aquarium...... LOL Not like he's not capable of it in every way, and I know the thoughts crossed his mind.

Best thing to do is just wait and see what happens.....

Funny you should mention that...... I have a spot in my basment that has about 15 feet between windows...... Just so happens I have this chalk outline on the floor that's 15'x8' could be an outline for a concrete block tank. Only trouble is the 8' ceiling, but maybe a 5-6' tall tank would be ok. Thanks for the vote of confidence. Stay tuned, winter is comming, and I get bored easy!

:ROFL::ROFL: I KNEW it!!!

You Chicago folks just keep bumpin the bar higher and higher. When I 1st joined up here a 300 gallon tank was respectable....

Now a 300's too small to even make a sump out of. I pick up a few rays at your place and see a ply tank that holds more water then all my tanks put together. Rich (VLDesign)'s tank is bigger then my friggin pond which takes up half my basement. And now this?

Telling ya, hard to keep up with you guys.......

Definetly pretty neat to watch the hobby evolve like this......

Maybe you should keep the tank 4 foot or under.... This way when you're tossin 5LB feeders in there the Amatus don't bash thier face on the rafters.....
