gr8 stories everybody...

growing up a navy brat, my family was always stationed at a naval base and always on a tropical area. we have lived in places like guam, hawaii, san diego, taiwan, etc. where the warmth and weather always brought us to the beach hence being around the ocean fostered my love of fish. its actually amazing that im not more into salt water now that i think about it. bringing home animals from the beach became something i regularly did, everything from hermit crabs, lizards, starfish, crabs, to even octopus was brought home.

Hey bro, what years were you in Guam and what school did you go too? You must know the LFS's like feathers'n'fins, and latte stone pets. we used to bring home beach critters too, but we really like going out late at night to find coconut crabs..lol

When I was about 4 or 5 the only place to get fish was the family market. They had a little corner way in the back with about a dozen tanks. I would always go look at them while my folks shopped and point out the dead ones to the shopkeeper, Mr. Jim. He would always laugh and say thanks, but I think secretly he hated it. Anyway that's where I got my interest in fish until a real pet store came to town.

I have an uncle that was a monster fish keeper (before such a term was even used) since the late 70's. He was basically the one that inspired me to move out of small fish and try fist - sized goldfish, pangasius catfish and arowanas...

MY LFS is just 2 blocks from our house ,I always go there for dog food and supplys. The owners are awesome,they came to help me set up a pond outside. Later I bought a used 90 gallon tank off the store and they came and set up my first tank.

I have always enjoyed fish, but other than a few goldfish growing up not much fish keeping until recently. I have a buddy that is really into it and i guess my intrest really stemed from him. Its started with bettas and once i got a 10gal and put sharks in it....im hooked.

I got my 1st tropical tank when I was 12, that got dismantled when I was 15, started working at Pets at Home when I was 17, got into fish alot then. I bought my Mum a cold oranda tank and got myself my Convicts about 4months ago now and I love them to pieces. Plus my mate has 7 tanks with Oscars etc so kinda got hooked from him too .
