Who has a dirty job???

Some of the things you see working on sick/injured animals is pretty bad. Abscesses might have been the worst... i threw up a couple of times...

For sure! Even still animal funk as bad as it gets doesn't creep me out as bad as people funk . There are a few things working with animals that put a caregiver into a special level of hell though i.e. bloody diarrhea from parvo infections (this smell is just sooo very very wrong I think it actually smells worse than death) Sometimes I'll get an animal in that has been injured for days/weeks before it gets to me, maggots make me shudder in horror I think of all the things I see that make my job ewww maggots are for sure number one, in wounds they are bad enough, but I actually had one patient barf them up on the exam table, ugh it makes me choke back a gag even thinking about it.

you should post some dirty tank stories here

Trying to find pictures (old laptop broke- this had a picture of the dirtiest tank; last photos I took - I am not losing my job for bad feedback lol). Basically, a man had roughly 50+ African cichlids ranging from 2inch - 6 inch in a 75g :O and he had this large fake coral thing - you know what I mean lol. Anyway, I picked it up out of the tank to clean it....

I found about 10 dead fish covered in fungus, faeces and mouldy food. Words could not describe the smell. I threw up. It took me 3 hours to clean the tank, I even bought new sand for him (he paid me back lol). After this ordeal, I told him to sell some fish or get a bigger tank, so he did so and know I help with his fish every 2 weeks. He has improved loads :)

The fish now live in a 125g :headbang2

P.S I charged him £65 (roughly $100) for the clean.

my job at a pet shop isn't as bad as some would think, it's amazing how quick you get used to the smell of crap.
volunteering at a public aquarium is much, MUCH, dirtier. one of my jobs is cleaning out old fruit fly cultures, i can't understand how something so small can smell so bad... also the dead fish smell from the frozen caplin we feed the big fish and handling the dead rabbits and guinea pigs for the anacondas. I don't really mind any of it but i can see how some people would be grossed out

My hubby works at a printing company. On fridays he cleans out the machines and comes home covered in black ink. He smells like burnt ink and his clothes are covered in it. Yuck....burnt ink smells soooo bad.

Ever see a human face smashed flat? Seen bones from outside the flesh? Seen the blood that comes with it? Fought a house fire? Do you know what u look like after that?

Just to let you know what we, firefighters, go through. Honostly i dont think people realise what we go through and see. So next time your city/town/county wants to cut the pay or lay off, firefighters or cops, fight to keep them.
