Who has MFK's oldest Polypterus???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just to continue, I think the reason I had so much success with her was I provided the largest tank I could afford, I did massive water changes regularly, and pumped the food into her! I personally think we stunt their growth if we neglect any of those priorities! It's very hard for the average aquarist to provide those kind of necessities for optimum growth. That's why we seldom see monster bichirs unless we buy them big! IMHO Johnathan:D

Good stuff! Post a pic, how big is it?

There was a large lower jaw bichir (either congicus or lap, it was a few years ago) that used to be at an LFS here, it would have come in back in the early 90's before the import laws changed. Apparently its still around, but the person I know who knows the owner says he is hard to get hold of...

Here is a shot of my girl from earlier this year. This fish is what started the passion for me. I came across it in a very out of the way LFS and I just knew that I had to have it.
Length wise it is between 12.5" and 13"

mines 2 months old an he is 8 inches an im goin to get another one here in a short while.

Can't really tell how old some of my bichirs are as some are wild caught especially my 20" nigerian lap and 17.5" koliba. They could be more than 5-6 years old or older. I have a 21" endli that is 4 years old and a 13"+ sene that is 6 years old and a 18" ornate that is also a 6 years old. Also got a 18" lap that is also 4 years old. Got a 14" del that is also 14" and it's 5 years old. The rest of my bichirs are less than a year old and some are 3-1 years old.
