Who has them and where did you get them?

I am ready and waiting on my LFS to get an order in, and I am really impatient.

What tank size does everyone keep them in? The info I have found varies from 20 gallon longs to 55 gallon minimums.

How can you tell the diference between male and female? Is there any sort of sexual dimorphism? If so at what size?

Include pics if you need/want to. And any other info on specific tank setups or breeding would be helpful.

20 long is fine for a pair. I kept them for about a year before i got tired of them and sold em off. The male will usually develop a heftier body and a nuchal hump, while the female will not. WIth my fish, the male had more blue while the female was more of an amber/dark green.

Is that the only way you can tell the difference? I hope my lfs gets them in at a sexable size. How much did they run you?

I am guessing they are going to be quite pricey since they are pretty hard to find around here.

I have a 29 set up with 2 large pieces of driftwood (one self standing vertical and one leaning against the glass/ flowerpot), some floating plants, and the flowerpot. Are they cave spawners? Will they lay eggs on driftwood at all?

males usually red color fins and such. should be the first thing you can tell between the sexes. females should have yellowish fin color. both should have a T on their sides, as they are also called T-Bar Cichlid.

mature males should get a kok of some sort. bodies should be blueish/greenish/redish colors with fading to red towards fins and tail.

my experience is on about 5 pairs.

here is a couple pics for ya:

the T-Bar is more visible during breeding.

i had a pair and kept them in a 38 it is a perfect size tank for them.

and fishfreak is spot on for sexing them.

Hi, I have a sajica (tbar/jade eye). Probably the best cichlid I have and have had. I keephim in a 24" x 15" Tall (approx 30g i think). He's on his own in there with some red-eye tetras as he's probably the most aggressive fish I've had - will not tolerate any other fish at all. Not even my oscar. Allthough he's aggressive he's very personable and even seems affectionate towards me.

Here's a pic

haha! that fish is so gorgeous all I can do is laugh, beautiful male I presume according to fishfreak it has some darker fins it looks like, but they do have yellow towards the tips...

thanks fishfreak that will help me so much when I am purchasing some of them.

thanks so much

Same here except only 6 months or so. The male didn't even mate with the female I got him. He killed her and hooked up with a convict.
