Who has seen an Asian redtail catfish in lfs???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Where have you seen them?

Youngster wyckii and wyckioides are not easy to tell apart.

Agree.

In the lfs, I see the wht tip on the tail, figure it's a wyckii??? The guy that works there told me?
Which LFS? Does it ship? Young fish most usually have indistinct tails, with neither white nor red. Perhaps these were an exception or simply larger. What size were they?

Perhaps I could be wrong coz I'm not educated enough to know the difference when they are 2". I can see the resemblance of a wyckii with the wht/grey tip tail. I might go back today and get a nice photo.

This guy is 7-8" but no killer like my 15"...

Not surprising. It needs to mature to show true colors.

Tank size matters a whole lot too. On the wyckii: Arapaimag says: "Very different personality where I keep them now in my 15k (1) and 52k (2) (peaceful) as opposed to any tank I kept them in before under 600 gallons (violent)" per http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?species_id=94

Photos may or may not help - at 2", wyckii and wyckioides are normally hard to distinguish. BTW, thank you for the PM.
