And before you arm yourself with another "smartass", I have that issue and 3 years worth of others. It's a filler magazine. Their editors don't know enough to tell when they're captioning a C. maronii as "Laetacara thayeri" or even print a picture right side up. Beginner articles go waaaay over their heads.

Aquarium Fish Magazine is a perfectly legitamite source. I don't know why you are bashing it.

He's been a tank by himself since he was 6-7" or so. He used to share my bedroom tank with another midas... at 3" they had to be separated. For their own protection and my ability to sleep at night (they were constantly chasing/banging the top and splashing!). The summer of our first TUIC order (2004), I moved him into a 75g by himself and has been there ever since. Once I get a house, he'll get moved into a larger tank.

For some reason, he looks larger in the top photo. I really need to spend some time with him and the camera to get some shots to really show off his girth. He's at least 4" wide at the head.

He definitely gets all the attention when people are over visiting. But now that the escondido male is more outgoing, the midas' grip on the spotlight is starting to slip a little
