mine is not big... the right word for my bichir is fat! he's around 12-13" long.. but my ornate is the fat fish in the tank....:D

I'm lucky to be able to say I've seen that tank in person. Your ornates have grown huuuge man! Bigger than 12" by now right? I'd guess around 20". :headbang2

Ever since you gave me the tip to feed market shrimp, I've stopped feeding them krill (too expensive now that they're eating a lot every day) and they are growing like crazy on the raw shrimp! :)

Even my GT's are growing fast on the shrimp. :D

My stupid bichirs will not eat shrimps. This pissed me off because I have to feed Hikari Carnivore pellets and those thing are $7 a bag. Ya, shrimp will help fish grow fast. I used to feed my piranha a shrimp a day and by the time I sold him he was plump and fat as heck. The fish store said he has never seen a piranha so fat. :D

aw man sorry to hear that. I tried carnivore once and didn't like it. it made my water smell foul after every feeding, it was messy (bichirs would tear it apart), and it's waaayyy too expensive as a staple diet.

have you tried not feeding for a few days, then trying shrimp again?

cheers

I acquired two ornates about 2 1/2 weeks ago 14" and 16"! I'll try to get some descent pics this weekend, but they are still a little skittish.
