My old Niger cat. He was about 24" when I donated him to the zoo (photo in the cooler), now he is more like 32" (photo swimming). The tank is a ~12,000G "Flooded Amazon" exhibit, the photo with my son is only one of two viewing windows.
So you have the giant, not the dwarf, goonch; I think we may have a winner for biggest potential catfish!

The Goonch is a very slow grower First pic, 3 years ago, next to a 1" intake pipe and now in my 210 that side glass is 2'X2'
My Niger cat, 2 years ago, next to an 8" black overflow and the next pic my Niger in the same tank, you can see the same overflow on the left and right side of the tank. The other cat next to the tank is 20 pounds
Good that they accepted your big boy onto their system,he's got plenty of space there.
