Now those are some monsters.. they look huge even at just 19"..

I just hear everyone say 30-36", but other than public aquariums, I have yet to see many over 20"..

Red tail cat can get 6', in public aquariums and the wild.. Any 6' domestics?

Perhaps that should make one consider whether many home hobbyists are really able to give some of these larger fish the conditions that they really need to thrive...

I don't agree with that. There are enough individuals who can provide these fish with the proper housing.

I believe its more of a time issue. Motoro's(and other rays) are usually exported as babies. These grow fast in the beginning and as the rays get larger they grow slower. Taking many years to grow to the 1 meter mark. Many people I have seen keeping these animals either quit the hobby before the motoro gets that old, or the motoro dies or is swapped for some other species

consider how old is a 30-36" motoro.... maybe mike will chime in on the age of big mama the 33" leopoldi

The 24" Motoro I saw at the Vancouver Aquarium looked VERY old!!

How old/big are your largest Motoros amazongirl?

hmm... now my motoros not in that small fibre pond anymore, thats only a quarantine pond. just for 1 week, and then i move them to 2.5 x 1.5 x 0.75 meter fibre pond. is that enough for 5 huge motoros?

I am wondering if Motoros over 30" are a rarity and the more common max size is less than most assume?

or is it age and eventually they just grow very large? I don't see many wild motoros over 20", ever?
