At what point does the typical glass aquarium start becoming too heavy/expensive/awkward? I'd love to hear from people with massive glass tanks about the pros and cons, etc. Dimensions, thickness, bracing etc etc.

My 370g is made from 12mm glass and was pretty heavy, at the time I said if I ever went for something bigger I'd go for DIY, but the more I think about it the more I think that glass isn't such a bad idea. Unfortunately acrylic isn't an option here, unless I get someone like Tenecor to ship internationally ($$$$$$$!!!!)...

I think the biggest glass tank I would go for is a 180. With where my life is at (I'm in my mid twenties) I am going to be moving around a bit in the next few years, so my preferences for a tank (to be easy to transport) might be completely different than someone who is older and owns a house and has no intention of moving a tank anytime soon.

On glasscages.com they have a 730 gallon glass tank in their commercial aquarium section. In the regular glass for private use goes to 500 gallons. You can buy the commercial ones for home use or get a custom size possibly bigger than 730 though.

I had a 300 gallon glass tank aprox 800 pounds. After moving it a couple of times, I swore my next bigger tank would be acrylic. I priced (new) 300 gallon and up acrylic then I quickly realized that they were way more cash then I cared to put out. I recently bought a 420 gallon glass aprox 1200 lbs. After barley squeezing it through my doorways, I think I'm at my max size for now...(?)

My tanks aren't huge but figured I'd put them anyway. I currently have a glasscages 240. I believe they said it weighed 627lbs. Tomorrow I'm getting a marineland deep dimension 300 (6x3 footprint). Marineland had listed this at a dry weight of 460lbs. I personally don't mind heavy tanks because my other hobby is powerlifting and I have a lot of strong friends. So I would prefer the cheaper glass.
