Who has them? Crystal Eye Catfish (Mystus Wyckii)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my friend got one. one day he put a larger jaguar cichild with him. I saw it trying to eat the cichild. the jaguar lost its tail and some flesh. died instantly.
Sounds like exaggeration.. died instantly from loss of flesh? Never heard of that. Cichlids are hardy too..

Lol my Artc kills red devil cichlids like there's no tomorrow. Once the lights were off, they hunt and kills anything inside their tank. Most aggressive fish I ever owned. I wish there's a crystal eye in my area.

Two different species, artc known to be significantly worse in attitude. Reports of wyckii with other fish, theres becoming more and more, wyckioides however none. Personally I like wyckii more though. More stocky, and its head stays flatter and it's darker withhe white accents and small streamers look good imo. Would get one if I had a bigger tank.

I have a young one! So far it is not aggressive to other fish, but I do plan to keep it by itself. It's only about 4". Seems SMART for a catfish usually they aren't very bright. In a 75 gallon right now (looking for a 210). Tankmates are oscar, Texas cichlid, silver dollars, synodontus, and a red Tail cat. Eventually want to move south and have a large pool for some of them. I plan for the wyckii to have the 210 alone. It loves to eat anything. It will take dry pellets but I also make my own frozen using shrimp, fish, clams. Loves all of this, plus blood worms.

Hmmm it seems after moving the wyckii to the 75 he/she has bullied the red Tail cat because it isn't coming out of the corner and is looking thinner. May need to separate now!

Not surprising. Does the RTC have tattered fins, barbels, or any other damage? If so, I'd separate immediately.

Why not start your own thread on your fish and update it regularly for as long as you have it? This is an odd and ineffective place to share info, ask questions, etc. Unless you plan to never come back to this fish and this topic.

I tried on in a community for a couple of years from 12-22" it was a rough time sometimes with big Midas and other aggressive fish in a 300g. Mine wasn't an outright killer but he battered everything from time to time.
It's unfair on tankmates, the become punch bags.
If you search project wyckii in the search bar above you will find my well documented thread Inc all the ups and downs.
