I got raked by the mouth of a 3' common gar (it was in his/her own defense) their teeth aren't for cutting, they are like spikes for grabbing, not like piranahs or sharks that could take a chunk out of you.

that giant mouth only scraped my skin, the infection however was nasty for a littlewhile...

very happy in new tank its been a couple of weeks now and he is doing great. i can really keep a close eye on him and he knows who i am already. when i come next to his tank he comes right to me as if to say feed me,feed me . really cool to connect with him like this.he is not shy or skiddish as some have said he would be.ive been feeding him gf and convicts. but starting soon traning with feeding stick and fillet chunks. any advise polypterus? words of wisdom? seems to me you know your gars. thanks

Good thing he's calming down, accustomed and doing the classic Atractosteus begging..... You really should have no issues getting the fish to feed on fillets. Gators are in general garbage disposals and will pick up quickly to any sorts of foods. Helps things along at first to use long thin slices rather than chunks.
 
Somebody released a gator gar in a trailer park pond nearby here and it ate ducks and dogs. I think the news said it was 8 feet long, but I never saw a picture of it, just a bunch of people on the news crying and screaming, "No dogs go by there no more cause they know its somethin bad!"
