we cut our own wood for the fireplace when i lived in upstate NY

In San Diego, I just wait until October and usually the whole state is on fire anyway, so who needs wood

:ROFL::ROFL:

When I go to our cabin in eastern Oregon, I enjoy cutting the large wood piles we have for our stove fire place. Heats the log cabin well, normally have a tea can on top to release steam though...

i do not heat with fire, but i have cut my own wood...once...accidentally with a zipper :cry:

you are so nasty Onion.

we are going to have a fire tonight and see how it works out. Just a little one before bed. I have to get some more split. I busted my but yesterday and didn't feel like splitting any so I have to do that sometime during the week.

I cut and split 5 cord every winter.2 woodstoves and a pellet stove in my 1800 sq' cabin, the pellet is in the basement and I only use it when the temps get below 20f.I dont have a furnace or any other heat.
All the wood is from downed trees on my own property,I have about 13 acres heavily wooded and my house is right in the middle of it.
I stick to the 18" bar saws cause they are cheap:D File the teeth by hand to keep them sharp.

My main splitter is this thing,it came with the house.

It works great,I also have a 10lb maul for bigger pieces and a few wedges.
All my tools have fiberglass handles now,Id shatter at least one hickory handle every year.So far they are holding up much better.

pellet stove, fireplace, i buy it cut and than split it. wood is more expensive than gas, pellets arent to bad as they burn for such a long time
