From my understanding, I'm one of very few people successfully keeping motoros with cichlids, more specifically pikes.

I have two motoros around 9" with a cr. johanna (11"), a cr. menezesi (7"), a ZZ flowerhorn (10"), a female managuense (6"), and a gold saum (5").

They are very nice. :) And some very nice shots!

If your geophagus keep up the agressive attitude, just remove the root, not the fish :)

But they should accept each other in time (unless they lay eggs, and they do that ALOT).

I hope this can help you a bit. :)
Thanks!
The aggression is gone, it was just for a day, then he dropped the defense again. Yesterday the rays could swim under the root without any aggression from the Geophagus

ive seen alot of people put a tigrinus with their rays, but i wasnt going to cuz ive read of some problems people have had with them like eyes getting bitten off and stuff like that, but the tigrinus isnt very active, but not sure to chance it.

I've seen people Keep rays with other fish. When I get my 150 I might keep rays with some cichlids.

i have had 4 diffrent tigrinus with rays even new born ray pups with a 24inch tigrinus never had any problems

the only problem you get is the rays like to eat the tigrinus tail streamer thread but its no big deal it grows back fast then the rays eat it again they must think its a worm :D
