When i was out of a job I was thinking about it. considering we spend so much damn money at the LFS, I thought it would be beneficial! lol. But I found a different job before I put in an application. Good luck!
I did a few years ago.The pay was'nt much but it was the funnest job I ever worked.

at my work we are not allowed to refuse a fish sale, only void the garuntee, I've seen a lot of fish go to homes where i knew they wouldn't be taken care of :(

Oh like you could sell somebody a RTC or Pacu and you'd ask their tank size and it was like a 15g and you could not turn down the sale? I would quit... And cuss the customer out while quiting... :D :headbang2

working at an LFS is actually something i did for my Catholic private middle school for community service hours. i did everything the fish person does only thing didnt get any pay.

the amount you learn is simply phenomenal. The pay however, isn't. More for the love.

Pay's not great, but it can be a whole lot of fun. I worked for the largest fish store in So Cal in the late 70's for 4 years while going to school. I've been to most of the fish wholesalers in Los Angeles. If I had to do it all over again, I would still do it! If you have the chance to visit a fish farm or a fish wholesaler do it! I went to a lecture by an aquaculture specialist 2 days ago here. If you are into fish, that sounds like the dream job!

I do I wont lie i love it. But some times you will get some weiard people that come in. Like i had to test this guys water all he told me like a 15 minute story about his wife and him having problems.

i have a job at my LFS and i know the owner. ;)

I would hope so if you work there. :D

I got my first job at an LFS when I was 14. Because they couldnt legally hire me, they HAD to pay me in fish supplies. The rest is history. A million different tanks and fish later, here I am.

I worked at one other LFS, but quit at both before petco came in a couple years ago and drove them out.

I have been, and still am, involved in many aspects of "fishy business" to this day.

Good job if you are the top dog, not so good if you are the guy cleaning the tanks. You will find it becomes difficult to keep business and pleasure separate sometimes. Now I work as the manager of an ichthyological laboratory. I dont ever touch the SW tanks because I dont want it to lose its fun for me at home. That being said I use the lab to live vicariously, and keep large unique FW fish I cant house at home.

Be careful one way or another. You will either end up with too many fish, or end up getting rid of your fish. Thats the way it works in my experience.
