depends what u want really, i would go for the jd i love my jd he has full of personality and gets along with all my fish but if someone pisses him off hill fight right back,unless u put him with a red devil ofcourse

I have also had both, i prefer the JD. The GT i have is a pussy cat and not as friendly as my JD. I think the JD just seems like it has a unsure personality but if your around it enough mine would follow me around, never heard of a shy JD, possibley if you had them by themselves, JD's are even better when you have a pair.
if you're going to suggest an ebjd i'd say go with an escondido in it's place; way way better fish. there's a breeding pair of gt's at a lfs and i easily hung out with them for twenty minutes. they're hilarious, i'd take two steps away from the front of their tank and they'd try everything they could to peek to see what i was doing and acted like i was going to feed them. i stand in front of their tank and they go ape sh*t trying to kill me. funny stuff.

I would say go for the JD, though I've never had a GT so I cannot comment on that.
But my JD's have tons of personality, and are just beautiful. They aren't shy, and the coloration on them is fantastic.

I think JD's look better but GT's have a rep for being more of a "wet pet" so it really depends...or you could get both
