Talking to a friend of mine about acclimating fish to a new tank. I say float for 15ish minutes add some water float for a few more minutes and release the fish. She says float for 15ish minutes add water like I said, but for at LEAST 2 hours. Also I was told that you can't acclimate a fish when it is in a breather bag.

Float the bag unopened, open after 15 minutes then pour water from tank, after 10 minutes dump some water out of bag then add more water from tank, after 10 minutes dump water our then pour water in again, and wait for another 10 minutes then put fish in tank.

Take home, and dump fish into tank, the water in the bag will be warm from the car ride and its good to have other store water in your tank so your new fish has some water it likes.

:D

Basically what the guy above said. That's how I do it

I float the bag for 10-15 minutes and then add some tank water to the bag every 5 minutes for 15 minutes. The entire process shouldn't take more then 30 minutes otherwise it's just unnecessary stress on the fish.

I'm not sure if either are right answers actually. 15 minutes isn't enough time to acclimate, but 2 hours would be too long for me. I do 30 minutes to a hour usually. Just keep adding "your" fish tank water until 30 minutes is up or so.

I float the fish in its bag in the future tank for 15 min. Then I put him in a bucket with the bag water and a cup and a half of future tank water. I add another cup and a half every 15 minutes for 45 min. I then net him out of the bucket and dump it in its new home with the lights off for a few hours.

Meanwhile the water in the bucket is cooling, so no temperature acclimation is achieved. And netting him and tossing him into the tank also defeats the purpose of acclimating him.

I dont think there really is one definitive answer its going to vary a bit each time... So i say do what works for you, since if it ainr broke why fix it?

I just float em for 15 mins if its hot outside then maybe 10mins since the walk home will raise the temp to about the temp outside. Once the temps match I usually let the bag fill up with tank water let it sink a little bit and let them out. Ive never lost a single fish doing it this w.ay
