So what? A Shark will eat the bass.
bro this is under the cichlid section WHICH means CICHLIDS that are fighting machines which means freshwater!

Butti's all the way they will bite off the scales off of all my other fish then open its mouth and smash them to corners until they can't move. They are born as a fry, and if you look closely(3 week old fry, Butti) the larger one will eat the smaller ones. tough fish I tell ya

Hands down the Dovii. They dont call them the KING OF CICHLIDS for nothing. I have owned alot of aggressive cichs but dovii quickly dispatch anything they dont want in their territory.

If Tilapia buttikoferi got as large as that peacock bass there would be no question. That fish is one mean sucker. I wish I had enough space to have a tank for one again. I like it's chances versus any fish that doesn't swallow it.

how bout we get some real life stories not here say.... I have had all the monsters including a tilapia that did kill one of my dovii but each specimen is it's own. My top fish that I have owned hands down goes to a dovii. Never seen anything that could fight like him..... only 12" in size 30" in fight.

ok. In 2005 I lived in VA beach, VA and close to the big petshop called Animal jungle. They had a huge selection of cichlids. One time they had some larger Doviis and Blackbelts. About 10". The Balackbelts were the biggest because of their body but they were about in the same size category and were housed together.. The store was down the street so I came by like every other day. One by one the BBs got shredded and died. Maybe 3-5 of them died before separated.

Another. Same store, my roommate got a couple of 4" Doviis. They were the smallest and were chased around by the bigger fishes then grew up and took all of them out by killing them while breeding.

They arent good fighters. They are just tough.

Oh there were freddies the too and they seemed to be just as nasty as the Doviis. They also killed some tank mates at that store.

I just know at that time when they had the Freddies and Doviis, that was the time when I witnessed a mass of death..

Guapotes are really vicious.. and oh they got teeth to be that.

Come on people... Dovii, Dovii? Enough with them, yes they will chase and shred fish with their massive teeth, but do you actually think they can fight? I've had alot of them. Here's the problem, when dovii's fight they try flaring and scaring, if that dont work they open their mouth and leave it open until the other cichlid takes a shot, if the dovii gets lucky he will use his big mouth to shut the other cichlids mouth closed(that wont last long), thats all they do, their mouths are used for swallowing large prey. Not biting and not for shredding. Their lips are thin and when a cichlid with a smaller mouth and thicker lips like a red devil, the devil will bite and hold on the dovii's thin lips, later the dovii gave up his territory and his lip was swollen and turned a whitish red, It got infected and I had to treat it. I honestly think Red Devil's(Midas),and Buttikoferi's are the toughest fighting machine may not be as predatory but Def> a much better fighter.
