Hey MFK'ers im getting a Lighting system for a new tank im currently setting up, and i have some questions...

Im looking at a Lighting system thats big enough to transfer to a bigger tank further down the road.

For now it will be on a 55G reef tank (reg dimensions)... but eventually i want it to fit on the 90G (reg. dimensions)

Anyone think this light would be a good fit? its the 48" 8 X 54 Watts.......thats 479$
if not give me some suggestions..500$ limit though...THanks

Your best bet if you ever go to Metal Halide (which you should for coral and certain inverts) Then buy one from a Horticultrual supply place, the ones that sell for reef outfits are WAAAYYYY to pricey.Like places that sell Hydroponic equipment;) ;)

Im trying to stay away from MH due to heat, expense, and water temp would raise, electric bill would suck... I only want easy corals anyway until i tweak my reefing skills for a few years...And hydroponic bulbs are still 400$ and up... anyone have T5 HO advice?

thanks largemouthbadass

I would get the fixture you posted originally. HO T5 is as good for salt and planted tanks as a MH. PC's are hot, and do not put out as many lumens as a HO T5, and cost around 5x as much to replace. MH is too hot for many aquariums, especially during the summer on a 55 gallon. Also the moonlights that come on the PC hoods are fairly useless.

HAHA, good advice... i like the moonlight useless info.. good to know...
PC's are really that much more to replace then the HO T5's??
