Who Quarantine Feeders?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's true.
PETsMART for a fact gets in about 500 per bag of feeders with barely any water, and they are all gasping for breath.

it's 500 in a bag reguardless if they are large or small comets, or rosies.
The rosies are ok, but the large comets look like they are just lightly tossed in water.

It's awful.

I think all feeders from the" large chain" pet stores should be quarantined. When the are shipped, they come in the mail in a bag in a box. anywhere from 500-1000 per bag. Seems to just have enough water to cover them. not the healthiest bunch I've seen.

honestly the petsmart by my house isnt that bad there feeders are really heathy even there regular fish seem really good. the manager seems to be really knowledgeable

If I dont raise them myself I do. 1 week minimum, but I think home grown is best if you have the space.

I am anal when it comes to feeders. I have a ritual that I NEVER break. First when I bring them home from the store I drain off all of the LFS water. I then put them in a bucket with some salt and let them soak in there a cpl of hours or so. Then I drain that water and into the feeder tank they go for a week. Then they are food for the tanks.

no matter where you get your feeders from, the vast majority come from totally unregulated and generally disgusting farms in FL, or transshipped from overseas BEFORE they get to your LFS, either way you're playing with fire feeding them to anything you care about.

If you must feed live, get a pair of convicts, put them in water, and wait.

I have been thinking of buying some rosie minnows for my arrowana they are less than a inch and cost 3 bucks for ten. it seems like quarantine them for a week is what people usually do but all i can do about that is throw them into a white bucket i have and maybe put one of my sponge filters in there with an air hose. Would this be enough? bucket would be maybe 5 gallons.
Also how much salt would i need? how much per day etc. Id change the water in the bucket every other day. and feed them hikari food sticks.
