got a hoplias malabaricus as a gift and now I need to figure out where to put it since I don't have extra tank to work with other than a 10g.
so my option is to divide my 45"x45" tank which is the home of my 12" black diamond rhom Ares. the headache part is who should be his tank mate?
Option one is the wolffish goes in with Ares and my blue diamond stays in the 75g.
Option two is the blue diamond moves in with Ares and the wolffish goes in the 75g.
If it helps, the square tank is in the basement and the 75g is in the living room.

i wouldnt take the rhom out of the living room.
thinking about any other options??..lol.like .well..you kno the feeling..just ONE more tank..thought?
;-)

Divide the tank with 2 Rhoms til you can get the wolf his/her own tank.

Problem I see is that Wolves gotta a lot of power and concrete blockheads. They blast the lids of my tanks all the time tryin' to escape. I could easily see'm blasting thru a divider. I lost one to my blackcat, he blasted the glass lid up and over then out he came - cat was right there. Now everythings duct tapped down, bricks on top of glass sounds just plain stupid to me. Metal or plastic grids will just cut their faces up. Hope your wolf is out there like mine and not like some of the skitish ones I've had in the past - low light helps greatly - best of luck with whatever you choose.

thanks guys.
one more tank would help, and I get that feeling a lot but it's not gonna happen thanks to my wife. :(
I do have the fear that once it get big it will break the divider, but as wolf is very inactive I don't want the tank in the living room being so motionless...maybe I can throw in some ditcher fish to keep the tank alive..

you could put in endler's, tetras, or guppies. they'll breed. they're so small they could probably get through the divider and ares is so big he probably won't mess with em. The wolf might get a treat every once in a while, and it would keep things moving.

if wolf goes with Ares, i wouldn't worry about the tank being inactive as it's in the basement I only go down there couple hrs each day.
if the wolf goes in the 75g then that's when I might think the tank being kind of boring with no movement. not that my rhom has a lot of movement anyway, lol
I don't worry about the wolf can get over the divider but I worry as it get big it might be able to break the divider...

that'll be hard. I probably won't be able to decide anytime soon

I am stumped...
if I divide the tank, will Ares never behave the same again? will he be cramped in just 2/3 of his current space?
if I put the blue diamond in with Ares, will I get bored with an inactive wolffish in the living rooom? (not that my blue diamond is that much more active, lol) if I move the fish again, it'll stress it again..
if I put the wolffish with Ares, I'm afraid when it gets big it'll break the egg crate and hurt Ares..
maybe I'm just thinking too much....

it's like you are trying to decided rather to trade in a car you like with a new one, but afraid that the new one won't be as good as the old one..well you get what I mean.
