I will look into high-gain antennas, being that we do get some coverage that might work out. I really am not excited about shelling out money for equipment that will probably be obsolete before too long, so maybe 3G is the way to go if I can get good enough reception with a high-gain antenna. Is wireless service affected by weather? Our satellite TV loses reception during electrical storms and heavy snow, which we get quite a bit of some winters.

Satellite and dial-up are my only options. We get some cell phone reception, but it is very spotty - I can go from 5 bars to no coverage in a matter of seconds.
That sounds like us. For years, the only time we could use our cell phones was when we were on the road. Cell phone reception at our house is sketchy at best to nonexistent. When I finally upgraded to a smartphone, not being able to use the phone at home was no longer acceptable. I got a wireless network extender from Verizon Wireless, and for the first time ever, we can use our cell phones at home. After you get high speed internet connection, you might check out wireless network extenders.

I thought we lived in a rural area, but at least we have cable here!
Oh rats! I just checked, and this network extender does not work with satelite connection.![]()
