countrycat, it'd probably be much cheaper to find dovii locally than having them shipped from Cali

Fun thing about getting rid of fry is making the person net them himself. What a pain in the ass to catch 1/4"-1/2" fry in a decently large tank with gravel and decorations!

x2- It's HELL netting out fry from 55's full of decorations. I have to avoid the decor, net the fry, and deal with the parents biting my hand and nets. NOT an easy task!

Once I get them away from the parents and into bare 10's, it's no problem growing them out and selling 10 days later.

They're not that fast and I got a large net which will make it a lot easier to catch! But if you could find dovii in Ohio that would be pretty awesome but I hear they are kinda rare in those parts for some reason

Use 2 nets, a "chaser" and a "trapper", the fry easily escape from behind the net. Catching fry is harder than it sounds, they're quick and they spread out.......but it's pretty fun.

Even a tank with nothing but gravel and fish can be very difficult to net fry out of. Even more so if it is a community tank and there are hungry cichlids around.

And on anther note, I have decided that the spell checker in these forums is wakk! It just red underlined the word cichlids. Ummmm hello....

Ye, never seen one in the LFS around here. They tell me that they can't even order them. The male I have now I had to order from Rapps because I was done looking. We'll just have to see the price of shipping.

I just decided to see if I could catch some of the fry and I did it! haha the parents are protective but they have yet to bite my hand or the net...they rush me every time I get close to the tank but it's a lot of fun catching the fry! There's no other cichlid in there besides the parents and a pleco that has taken a beating but hes still doing work...I will let you know the shipping situation soon country kat

I have around 30 baby dovii that are close to a month old...I have some takers that want to buy some if anyone is interested around the bay area in Northern California let me know!
