I really enjoy working at a LFS, it's a ton of fun, I love the good customers. The good customers are great, the bad customers are really bad...there's not much in between. I want to hug anyone who has any semblance of knowledge about the nitrogen cycle. I don't really feel burnt out by it, I still enjoy my tanks at home. I do all the ordering, I make 99% of the decisions regarding anything fish and any stock I bring in. The only downside I've found is there is no one to ask advice or to help with decisions as far as medicating and taking some of the fault if something goes wrong...it's all on my shoulders. The ordering and receiving the fish is the best part, I love getting cool things in and seeing what is available week after week. Probably one of the best things is being able to keep and experience all these neat fish, but not having a permanent commitment to them . It's also fun to "fall in love" with fish that you wouldn't even think of having. I'm starting to really like Flowerhorns, as an example, where a year ago I thought they were one of the ugliest fish.
Other non fish aspects of the job annoy me a great deal, to the point I browse job listings frequently, but I do love the fish. One of the things I don't care for is that all my systems are those damn Marineland MARS systems, like Petco has...so you get one sick tank, and they all get sick. It drives me insane, to the point that sometimes I feel like giving up.
