I just picked this one up from the LFS yesterday. I went to a store I usually dont go to since they only have a few tanks and mainly sell dog and cat supplies but my daughter was out of school and we were bored. The fish are also always sick or really skinny. You probably all know the type of place, the kind with dirty little corner filters and half filled tanks. Anyway, there was a tank just marked flowerhorns 14.99 so we had a look and noticed this one behind the filter covered with ich. I really didnt think it was going to make it but just look how nice it is fading and how blue it is! We got it home dipped it and put it in a little 5.5gal with lots of salt and cranked up the heat. It ate last night and this morning just about all of the ich is gone except for a few spots on it's head. The fish is only about 2" and a little skinny but seems healthy otherwise. Lemme know what you think. Also, is the blue a common color or will it eventually chance too?

Oh yeah sorry about the pic but I had to use the flash as the tank it is in does not have any lighting.

I think it might be rare with that price! 15 bucks for a fry? they usually sell em for 2-4 bucks here. Never seen a blue fh before, UPDATE!

not a flowerhorn. FH do not have this blue color. What it looks to be is a pure species, maybe vieja cross.

Grow this guy out, he has so many colors already showing from peeling. hes going to be excellent.

Really looks to be a flowerhorn peeling. Pic is not the best. I will try to post some better pics. Definately not a pure species also kinda hard to be a pure species and a cross at the same time. LOL

Definately going to grow him out. I have also seen plenty of faded FH with a blue tint. Here are one or two I found online.

looks nothing like a veija but i definety think its some kind of flowerhorn are you sure the odd colors arent from being wounded from ich or something else i have had little fish get woulded and have crazy colors until they are healed.IF not i think it will be a sweet fish as it grows.maybe its part electric blue dempsey lol!

Not sure about the coloring due to the ich. I asked at the LFS if they were treating with anything and they said all they would ever use is Melafix. I tried to explain other meds, but the girl looked at me like I had three heads. I know for sure that most of the ich is gone, nothing I used to treat it would make it turn blue, and it definately looks like a FH.

Good pick up!

It is indeed a fading FH, the blue is actually going to turn white(like the piebald midas/parrots) basically it's a JK with piebald markings(piebald midas x FH).

Keep us updated!

yeah flowerhorn is a pretty loose term to begin with. have to see for sure when it gets bigger
