You know, I voted for "not often but sometimes" and then about 15 minutes later I found a pretty nasty deal on clist. I already posted this in my own thread but feel that it belongs here too, and if it doesn't its because I'm so ecstatic that I feel like i'm on crack and didn't use a shred of common sense or judgement when making this post and also feel like making run-on sentences as well:

Well, I jumped on a clist ad for a 125 tank with stand/lights and a box of accessories for $200.. when I got there the tank/stand/lights were in great shape, so I looked through said box and saw: an aquaclear 110, a brand new lifereef prefilter box ($120 retail), and a python gravel cleaner with some stuff under it.

When I got home, I tallied up what the $200 had gotten me:
-a 125g tank (glass)
-a nice metal stand
-two double-bulb strip lights
-an aquaclear 110
-a brand new in box aquaclear 70
-new lifereef prefilter box
-3 rio powerheads
-2 aquaclear powerheads
-2 marineland powerheads
-Two python vacs & one aqueon vac
-two large air pumps
-a load of saltwater fish food
-chems - full new saltwater test kit, fresh bottle of prime, a bunch of kent supplies (ammo detox, pro-buffer, etc)
-a few light timers and power strips
-a ton of filter media/powerhead refills
-a box full of new airstones/tubing
-2 hydrometers
-a few algae scrapers, nets, unused thermometer stickers, and various other randoms

The guy also mentioned that he has a few canister filters in his other storage unit that he's emptying.... and that since he could tell I was pretty knowledgeable and he loves seeing passionate people in the hobby, he's going to call me and give them to me for free. Even if that doesn't happen, I feel like I walked away with an awesome deal. If it does, I just had Christmas twice in July.

needless to say.... I. IS. PLEASED. :D

Pics will come when the tank is set up (even thought I haven't taken pics of my 90, 55, 46, 30, 20, 10, or 6 yet ;)... granted the 55 20 and 10 are empty fry tanks, I swear I'll get it all up soon.)
edit... just found a 3rd marineland powerhead :)

oh yeh that is what I am talking about thanks for posting it SCORRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEE

it may have seemed kinda funny for me to be so pumped about the fish I picked up to start this thread, but, that was just the first part of the score. I went tonight and got the rest of the fish and took a couple of pics of the tanks so here is the back half of the score.

$100 for this

$1000 for this, now people may think im nuts but this deal came with 300 lbs of rocks 400 lbs of sand, a massive set up of filtration that is under the stand and a whole swack of stuff. Also, when I did my trip to calgary alberta to pick up 3 tanks uhaul screwed everything up and made it so I had to leave behind a 230g and now I have the final tank that finishes the way I want the restaurant to be set up with 140+g tanks nothing under.

and what really rocks is that there are many mated pairs in the mix here so my fish company will have its own solid supply of breeding stock

I'm getting myself a deal here soon. I've confirmed with the owner I'm buying the tank (and it's a friend, so he wont sell it behind my back now that I've said I want it). It's a 150 with nice Amish built custom stand (oddly tall though which I don't particularly like, but I'll live with it), wet/dry sump, full hoods, UV sterilizer and protein skimmer (a couple owners ago I think it was a reef tank), tons of rock and driftwood, and stocked with Tanganyikan cichlids worth probably over $200 retail price (although this tank is an upgrade for my current stock and sadly the Tangs have to go) and I think I'm paying $400-500 for it. I still need to see if he wants to keep or sell any of the fish himself or if I get all of them to do what I want with them (in which case most if not all would be available to you guys at good prices). There is still some tank shuffling to be done to make room, but I'll hopefully have it here and set up by early August.
