Whos got the most overfiltered tank here on MFK?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
On my 225 gal. reef I have a 55 gal sump with 40lbs of sand and rock rubble, a Euro-Reef CS8-2 skimmer, 4 filter socks, a 2000 gal/hour main drive pump that feeds a 30 gal refugium (abouve tank) and a thirty gal Carlson Surge tank that drains evey 1min 47sec., and a diy calcium reactor. I also have 2 650 gal/hour Mag Drives inside the tank for ciculation. I know I'm forgetting something. I'll take a look when I get home.

On my 29 Gal hav a fluval 403, 20 Gal with 2 fluval 203s (feeder tank), 75 Gal with 9x turn over threw my 15gal wet/dry, 120 Gal with a 6.5x turn over threw a 20 gal wet/dry an a AC110.

40g with a fluval 405 and a 4+ internal nearly 17 times an hour theoreticly.

still finishing the 5foot tank, but that will be running a large sump with 100l(25g) of bioballs and filterfloss. and will be using an aquamedic 3500. which acording to thecharts should give me 3000lph (750gph)@ 5foot.

however there will be circulation pumps inside th tank, and there will be a second filter pump connecting the 3foot tank to the sump aswell.

On my new 150 tall:

Fluval FX5
Eheim 2078 Pro 3E
Eheim 2229 Wet/ Dry
Turbo Twist 6X

~200 gallon

Underflow/overflow system with 3kg of Bacteria House in a "bakki shower" in the overflow.

Around 70lbs of ceramic media in the sump, with all the water first passing through almost 2' of black bio sponge in the first two compartments.

Final compartment contains 2 diy coil denitrators and the return pump (2400gph)

The display also contains a powerhead, a piece of driftwood, and a few little fish... :D

What does this term "bakki shower" mean? (Sounds like some underground sex term im unaware of :D )

I realize its alot of media but do you ever replace your ceramic media?

The 5000 gallon tank runs at a nominal 24000 gallons an hour. ( 5x)
3 hayward 525 sq ft cartridge filters ( 25 microns)
2 bag filters 100, 10 microns
2 carbon filters
1 bio tower 12 inch diam x 96 tall
4 55 gallon bio ball drums
large UV unit ( 24 tubes)
plus lots of water changing

is it easy to mount as a DiY, John, and is it worth it as an addition to the sump system?
