Who's got the puffiest puffer?!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ive owned figure 8s, GSPs, and dwarf puffers.
only once have i seen it, and it was a dwarf puffer. i dont know what provoked him, but i came home and he was inflated, but dead. i've heard that if they puff, 90% of the time or more, they end up dying ...

sorry, no pics, but it looked just like you imagine it looking like... most of the expansion was in the "belly" area

I've seen one puff, a friend had a GSP. and it got caught in one of their powerheads (the screen had come off for whatever reason) once it was freed (with some help from my friend) it deflated itself. looked a little wrinqly afterwards, but was fine and back to it's normal self after about 20 minutes. Probably the only reason the fish didn't lose any fins from the incident was because it inflated itself.

I used to go fishing in Florida and we used to catch puffers all the time. 99% of the time they'd puff up and it was such a pain to get them unhooked.

my GSP almost puffed when i was moving him... he was in a net and he began to puff but as soon as he got back in the water he deflated... only a slight puff but still never provoke your puffer to puff... its most likely fatal. thats what fish owners who see the cute little face at the LFS dont understand...

I've got a Fahaka that has done it 3 times.

Twice were while trying to attack it's reflection in the bottom of the tank and the 3rd was when a friend brought her daughter over. The tank was a little taller than her, when she walked over and looked up at him it looked down and blew up.....

Of course now that the camera's kept next to it's tank it hasn't puffed up in months.

Easily blew up to 4 times the size it usually is.
