Haha those are sooo tiny! I've seen videos of small ones washing up on beaches in la and Monterey. I would think if an aquarium really wanted to keep one for life, it would have to be the only fish in the tank. Those aquariums in japan are able to keep whale sharks so maybe one day, somewhere, there will be a great white exhibit. A huge one since Monterey has already kept smaller ones.

I believe Monterrey's died. Theres definitely a reason, i think there is unseen stress on these animals since they are confined. I believe they have innate wild urges (such as migrating) that when they are unable to do causes extreme stress.

IMO, some creatures shouldn't be held in captivity and this is one of them.

The tank they had the Great White in in Monterey is 1,000,000 gallons. They kept it in a 4,000,000 gallon pen to get is accustomed to being in an enclosed space prior to moving it into the million gallon tank.

I checked him out while he was there and I gotta admit, it was pretty cool to see, but he is better off in the open ocean. From what I understand, most captive GWs will typically stop eating and we all know that's not a good sign. This type of thread reminds me of the quote from Shawshank Redemption:

"...some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright and when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up does rejoice, but still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty now that they're gone."

Actually they released it cuz it started causing havoc and eating all their other sharks.
