Who's kept a oscar in a 10 gallon before?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
20yrs ago my first tank was a 20g with a oscar and a pleco.

oscar lived many years and made it to 12" before I wised up and gave it to some one with a larger tank. A 55g lol

Pleco was also 10" or so.

Its funny how things change. That oscar only got fed feeder gold fish daily. And never once had a illness or this Hith stuff that is now so common. And the pleco was never fed a single thing.

The guy at the lfs back then told me if you want him to clean the tank then don't feed him.

+1

For a grow-out... lol.. that didn't last long!

Cruel punishment. 55g should be minimum for an oscar of any size. Recently an idiot brought an oscar into my lfs that they'd been keeping in a 10 gal for 8 years and the poor thing's retarded in shape, bug-eyed and miserable. They need room to feel comfortable and eventually, room to turn around. They will grow whether they're happy or not.

+1 2 oscars and 2 firemouths and a plec in a 20L... My very first fish tank

although my first tank with oscars had two 6 inchers, and like 15 cons in a 55 gal

+1 I had a 4 inch oscar in new 10gal without cycling it....with two blood parrots, three bullheads, two sunfish and a krib. I was just 14 years old back then before I knew about cycle, sizes and requirements...dont worry the biggest bullhead outgrow the tank and take care of the rest of tankmates.
