imo putting a 3" aro would do alright in a 75 for a while but if you start to see him have problems turning or anything def. go and get at least a 180 gal or like i want a 220 gal..

like previously stated the Aro may last you 5 months in a 75g buy himself. I wouldnt do it unless you are absolutley sure you are getting him atleast a 180g. Also if you keep him alone for that time you might have a problem keeping him with other fish, but if you got the 180g up and running and added the other fish first then after about a week or 2, probably 2 to be on the safe side, add the aro and they should be okay. BUT you must pe postive in the fact that you are getting a bigger tank for him or dont bother with him.

well, it looks like the 125 is gonna go towards the brackish fish...

as for the aro, i havent even purchased him yet, and this is definately making me reconsider as i wont have the means for a bigger tank for at least 2 years..

now what to do w/ this soon to be empty 75?
maybe a dat if anywhere sold them locally that is...

At 2 years the aro could potentially be 24" or more. 75 gallon will not do. Mine were purchased at 6" and have already hit 14 and aren't even 6 months old. For the 75 if you want predators maybe a Marble cat or other smaller cat, maybe a african knife community? lots of options, could always branch out and go for a planted tank.

a dat would also not be advisable for a 75g.

how about an african or planted tank perhaps?

Go for the brackish, the aro would still need to be moved again anyway

my aor is currently about 14 in. in a 125 tank with a 8 in shovel nose...how long till both of them are full grown and my tank is fine right? haha

No, the aro will max at 4' given the right conditions. Your tank will be alright only until he reaches 18" and then you need a bigger tank. As to the shovelnose, what kind do you have?

The shovel nose is a Tiger...I bought him around the same tiem and kept in a 10 gallon tank with the feeders till he was big enough to go into main tank... HE has grown very fast, but has seemed to slow down....very entertaining when lights are off. him and the rapheal catfish that is also in there are my favorite catfish. although I have a thing for cory's but they dont go well with aro's

No i disagree

If you sell arowanas and know that you will be selling them then yes it's fine to store the aro's in that sort of sized tank because they won't be there that long but this guy is not selling them and is considering having one as a pet which is a bad idea for that sized tank because he'll have to get rid of it when it gets too big.

Have you tried removing a 30" arowana when it gets too big for a tank ?

I't not the easiest of things to do plus i adds lots of stress for the fish which could lead to later health problems.

IMO arowanas are for life and if you don't have the tank space for one FOR LIFE ... DON'T BUY ONE !
