Who's to blame for the big fish problem?

Great way to ruin what was potentially a very good thread guys!
Maybe a MOD can come in and delete the silly irrelevant arguments?
For what it's worth, after seeing the Bala Sharks in the display at my LFS I wouldn't even consider putting them in my 6ft tank! You might not consider a 12-16 inch fish big but they are constant swimmers, fast and fairly skittish.
I think Oscars are on the list because of how frequently they are kept in tanks that are way too small, I'd imagine more so than any other fish. Here in the UK especially where the tanks are considerably smaller than in the US and the climate makes it impossible to keep them in outdoor ponds.
Sadly one of the better LFS in my area has started selling Pacu and ID Sharks for next to nothing. I asked the woman about the Pacu and she told me it would grow to about 12-18 inches.

sorry folks i got a bit carried away with this stupid arguement, im usually quite rational and am not actually anti american. i just get sick of taking abuse about tank size as i spend a lot of time and effort looking after my fish. funnily enough i dont keep balas, it was meant as an example( bad example as it turns out)

welcome to MFK. thats us. We argue about everything. Part of what makes this site so fun. Just dont get gar. we get kinda intense over there

Yeah id agree with oscars being the wort problem. And i actually rescued 2 Pacu the other day from my LFS. Some kid brought them in because they had outgrown his tank already. There only 4 inches long. Makes me wonder what he thought they were. Its like pets stores should always ask what size tank you have before you buy fish.
idk about this whole thing...but that one person is right this is MONSTERfishkeepers so wouldn't you see monsters? lol
